Old Guy Disease You Can Get When You’re Young - Chest Pains

If you feel tightness in your chest while exercising, see your physician. But the younger you are, the greater the chance that it’s not a heart-related problem. It could well be thoracic outlet compression syndrome.

As you exercise, your working muscles can compress nerves or blood vessels in the upper chest, causing a sharp pain above the breastbone. This tips can help soothe them.

Don’t be a slouch. Don’t slump while you’re on a treadmill. Slouching compresses nerves and blood vessels.

Shrug it off. Add shoulder shrugs to your regular workout. Hold a light dumbbell in each hand and raise your shoulders towards your ears. Do three sets of 12 repetitions, three times a week. As your muscles grow stronger, they’ll be able to support more weight, keeping pressure off your upper chest.
